Birth card

Tarot glossary · also soul card

To find a birth card, add the day, month and year of birth together, then add the digits of the total until it is 22 or less; the number points to a trump, with 22 usually standing for The Fool. A total of 19, for example, gives The Sun, and reducing it further gives Wheel of Fortune and then The Magician, so many people get a pair or a trio of cards. The method was popularised by Mary K. Greer in Tarot for Your Self (1984). Readers use it as a lens for thinking about long-running themes, not as a fixed fate, and it borrows its logic from numerology rather than from early tarot history.
