Cups

Cups is one of the four suits of the Minor Arcana, called coppe in Italian decks and coupes in French ones. It matches Hearts in French and English playing cards. In the usual system, set by the Golden Dawn, it belongs to the element water, and readers take it as emotions, relationships, friendship, imagination and intuition. Its cards run from Ace of Cups to Ten, followed by four court cards. Because emotion runs through many cards, beginners sometimes read every Cup as romance; most guides treat the suit as feeling in general, including grief and longing. See tarot suits.
