Page
Tarot glossary · also princess, knave, jack
The Page is the first and youngest of the four court cards in each suit, ranked below the Knight, Queen and King. Early Italian decks called this card the Fante, a foot soldier or servant, and French ones the Valet; the Jack in ordinary playing cards comes from the same figure. The Thoth deck renames the Pages as Princesses. Readers often take a Page as a beginning: news, a message, study, curiosity or a young person. A common confusion is with the Knight, the other young-looking court card; the Page usually stands on foot, the Knight rides. See court cards.
