Court card
Tarot glossary · also face card
The court cards are the people of the Minor Arcana, four ranks in each suit. Early Italian tarot decks added a Queen to the three figures of ordinary playing cards, giving four. Names vary: the Thoth deck uses Princess, Prince, Queen and Knight, and some modern decks use Daughter, Son, Mother and Father. Readers take a court card as a person in the querent's life, a role the querent plays, or a way of behaving, and many find them the hardest cards to learn. Mapping ranks between decks is a common source of confusion. See court cards for each rank.
