Knight
Tarot glossary · also cavalier
The Knight rides a horse and ranks between the Page and the Queen in Italian, French and Rider–Waite–Smith decks. French and English playing cards dropped the Knight and kept King, Queen and Jack, so it is the court figure most players have never seen; Spanish and Italian packs kept a Knight and dropped the Queen instead. Readers take a Knight as movement, pursuit and action, sometimes too fast or too single-minded. In the Golden Dawn and Thoth system the Knight is the highest court rank, which confuses many readers moving between decks. See court cards.
