Pentacles
Tarot glossary · also coins, disks, denari, diamonds
Pentacles is the suit that early Italian decks called Denari, coins, and French ones Deniers. The coins were redrawn as five-pointed stars inside discs by 19th-century occultists and the Golden Dawn, and Waite's 1909 deck made the name Pentacles standard in English; Crowley's Thoth deck calls the suit Disks. Most modern readers link it with earth and read it as money, work, the body, home and practical things. It corresponds to Diamonds in ordinary playing cards. A common confusion is between the pentacle, a star in a circle, and the pentagram, the star alone. See tarot suits.
