The scroll in the High Priestess’s lap is lettered TORA. Her mantle hides part of the word. Waite describes it as greater law, secret law, and a second sense of the Word. He deliberately leaves the idea partly undisclosed. The spelling invites comparison with Torah, yet the card presents Waite’s occult symbol rather than an ordinary visible Torah scroll.
