Wands

Wands is the suit of staffs, which early Italian decks called Bastoni, batons or clubs. English decks name it Wands, Rods or Staves; Marseille-pattern decks show it as crossed, turned batons. Most modern readers link it with the element fire and read it as energy, drive, ambition, plans and creative work, though some traditions pair it with air and Swords with fire. It corresponds to Clubs in ordinary playing cards. In the Rider–Waite–Smith deck the wands are living branches with leaves, a detail that marks them as growing things. See tarot suits.
