Yes-or-no reading
Tarot glossary · also yes or no tarot
A yes-or-no reading answers a closed question, such as will I get the job, usually with one card. Readers use different rules: an upright card means yes and a reversed one no; certain cards count as yes, others as no and the rest as maybe; or a few cards are drawn and the majority decides. There is no traditional system, and guides disagree on which cards mean what. Many readers find yes-or-no questions the least useful kind, since a single word leaves little to reflect on, and prefer to rephrase the question into an open one, such as what would help this happen.
